Sorry about the delay on this; I never saw your comment until Cynthia assigned this to me.

Yes, that's what would probably work best: do a check to see if the Guest site is selected, and if it is, make the Advanced link disappear. We could then remove that check once we have more stuff in there. The way it is, it seems like more of a placeholder than a necessary UI element.

There are advanced Settings for the LayoutSet, at the moment there is only one; and it only makes sense when the Site is not the Guest Site. If you test with other Sites then you will see it.
The current solution was decided by several people who tought the previous UI was confusing. What is your suggestion for this UI Rich? Hiding the section if the Site is the Guest Site?

Go to Control Panel -> Site Pages. By default, Public Pages is selected. Click the Advanced link in the right side menu. 100% of the time, you get this message: "There are no available advanced settings for these pages."
In lieu of this, the Advanced link shouldn't appear when Public/Private pages is selected. Instead, the link should only appear when one page is selected. Alternatively, if there is some way to apply advanced settings to an entire layout set, some interface for it should appear here.
