When Liferay portal is using MySQL and "database.mysql.function.lower.enabled" is set to false (the default setting), the portal automatically removes case sensitive searches to improve performance. If MySQL is using a case sensitive character set (such as latin1_general_cs), and the property is not set to true, this breaks case insensitive searches. Since users can overlook this property, "database.mysql.function.lower.enabled" will be removed and Liferay portal will automatically detect if MySQL is case sensitive or not.
