RuntimeException occurs when browse an empty folder as the location in new maven plugin project wizard

• launch eclipse and switch to liferay
• new liferay plugin project wizard > select Maven as the build type
• enter a valid project name
• unchecked 'Use default location'
• create a new folder in your disk
  (I'll create a 'new' folder in eclipse folder during testing)
• browse the folder you've just created
  (Testing: /home/liferay/QA/IDE2.2.1/eclipse/new)

will notice there will be an error about RuntimeException caused by NullPointerException:
