The comments and the Message Board portlet rely on the same set of code. A message in the Message Board portlet belongs to a category and a thread, but there are no categories and threads for comments. So, to improve performance, the code for adding/updating/deleting comments has been modified so that it will no longer update the comment's category or the thread.
