Filling in Date fields manually is awkward

Steps to reproduce:
1. CReate a new Form and put a Date field on it. Publish.
2. Then Preview (or put the form on a page).
3. Start providing the date manually, play a bit with it, modify it (it perhaps helps a bit with reproduction if you also set it from the datepicker once, it seems to be more buggy after that)

Experienced behaviour: this operation is difficult and awkward to perform, it's quite buggy: the cursor jumps randomly sometimes and not all what you type is written out.

Expected behaviour: The user is capable to select part f the date, like month, date or the year and change it. The user is capable select all the date and start typing a new one.
