Description
Team Goals and Business Objectives
Lower the barrier to entry for new users of Liferay by making it more predictable for users as to where items are within the Applications Menu.
Background and Strategic Fit
The Liferay Applications Menu was introduced in Liferay 7.3 and provided a place for admins and practitioners to manage instance and virtual instance-level settings and applications.
The placement of some items within the Applications Menu is not self-evident, though, which confuses users and increases the learning curve for the product.
Proposed Solution
- Audit the current organization by interviewing new and long-time users
- Potentially do a UX study to benchmark how easy it is to find items within the menu
- Develop a set of guiding principles which individual product teams can use to guide their organization of items within the Applications Menu moving forward
- Re-organize the Applications Menu to align with the guiding principles and reduce friction of users finding the right screen
