Communities Portlet - Community member count doesnt include membership via UserGroups

In the Communities Portlet,

in the table which has the listing of Communities, Member Count, Online Now, Active...

Currently, the "member count" only seems to count the Users who are directly assigned to the community, but not the users who are in a UserGroup which is assigned to the community.
