      Description

having done a basic fresh setup of glassfish 3.1.2.2 (and also tried with glassfish 4.0), and having added the needed JDBC config (for postgresql) and JVM properties, then installing the liferay-portal.war app to the / of the default web server, I am now unable to access the web admin gui for glassfish.

I get a '404 - The requested resource is unavailable' message.

if I use the asadmin command line tool to undeploy liferay-portal, then restart glassfish, I once more have access to the glassfish admin web gui.

Sure, there must be something with portal deployment that breaks the admin console - but it's not unique to liferay portal. If you do the search for the error message, you will see that 1) other people have the same issue using other application (ie not using portal - even on empty installation) and 2) it happens more on windows then on eg linux (didn't notice any report for linux).

glassfish 3, unfortunately, has many issues - for example, you must restart the server after portal deploy! - so, in my humble opinion, it looks its internal glassfish issue. As we have a workaround, I believe we should continue working onother issues for the upcoming release)) Of course, if you find anything meaningful, please share with us - you can even drop me an email anytime - would like to hear whats going on

I too am having the same issue on both Fedora and CentOS. I upgraded from Liferay 6.1.1 to 6.1.2 and the admin gui is no longer available. I am running GlassFish 3.1.2.2 with jdk 1.7.0_21-b11

The workaround listed above does not work for me. http://localhost:4848/login.jsf is also not available.

          Same situation on CentOS.
We ran LR 6.1 GA1 without issues on both Sun jdk1.6.0_06 and jdk1.6.0_45. The admin console works fine,
We are in the process of migrating from 6.1 GA1 to 6.1.1 GA3.
Under GA 3 admin console starts up when using jdk1.6.0_06 but NOT when we use jdk1.6.0_45 . I need more than jdk1.6.0_06 due to someother 3rd party issues.
on GA3 I am usng the same GF 3.1.1 as I am for 6.1 GA1.

I've tested Sun jdk for 1.6.0_XX and found that the admin breaks at 1.6.0_19 and beyond.
This is for Liferay 6.1 GA3 under Glassfish 3.1.1 build 12.

If i bring up LR GA3 with jdk 1.6.0_06(as i mentioned before that combo works) and go into the admin console to "disable" liferay-portlet.
Then stop GF and then bring it up under jdk 1.6.0_45(which the admon console fails to get to the sign on page) i can then get into the admin console.
If I then "enable" lfieray-portlet, then sign out from the admin console and re access the admin console
          sign in page, it works.

Of course, I can't run like this. So how to I order the start up the admin gui ahead of liferay? Or can I not, just
so i can test that scneario?
