Verify process fails on SQL Server 2008 when using case sensitive collation

    Details

    • Type: Bug
    • Status: Closed
    • Resolution: Fixed
    • Affects Version/s: 6.1.30 EE GA3
    • Fix Version/s: 6.1.X EE
    • Environment:

      Description

Upgrade process crashes and the server fails to startup on Liferay Portal 6.1.3. The portal database was rendered corrupt by the failure also.

A message is shown in console:

      20:57:38,584 ERROR [localhost-startStop-1][MainServlet:217] com.liferay.portal.kernel.events.ActionException: com.liferay.portal.verify.VerifyException: com.liferay.portal.verify.VerifyException: java.sql.SQLException: Invalid object name 'information_schema.columns'.

(See attached log sql server 2008 upgrade error.log for more details)

However, the process finishes normally if the database for Liferay Portal is created using SQL Server's host machine default collation instead of Latin1_General_100_BIN. It is due to case sensitiveness of the collation used to create the database that Liferay is using.
