Currently the permission inheritance in the Documents and Media portlet works as follows:
1. Start up a clean bundle and add a Documents and Media portlet to the default 'Liferay' page.
2. Create a folder in the Documents and Media portlet named 'a'. Make sure only Owner and Site Member have all of the permissions to 'a'.
3. Create a subfolder inside folder 'a' and named it as 'a1'.
Result: 'a1' does not inherit the permissions of 'a' and 'a1' is using the default permissions for any newly created folder.
4. Modify the permissions of folder 'a'.
Result: The modification is not inherited by folder 'a1'.
It would be better if the user could choose to inherit the permissions from the parent folder when creating new folders/files inside one folder. If the permissions of the parent folder has been modified, it would be better if the user could choose to propagate the modifications made to the parent folders' permissions to the subfolders/files inside the parent folder.
By the way, we are aware that:
If we were to propagate modifications made to the parent folder's permissions to all of the subfolders/files inside that folder, the permission modifications will take longer to finish and the portal performance will also be affected when the number of subfolders/files is very large.
