After hitting reindex in the control panel, staying on the page to watch the process hammers process action

If you go to control panel and hit reindex all for the search indexes (or any reindex button) you will see a progress counter where the button was (COOL!!!!). The problem is, if you tail your apache access log (or tomcat access log) you will see that the processAction for EditServerMVCActionCommand is getting absolutely hammered. On my machine I could see it getting hit about 100 times a second. With enough people simply sitting on this page, it's a real performance risk.
