Users in a portal or any web experience solution might have a need to access applications designed for personal use. Right now Liferay provides access to those applications through the product menu. While this solution works it is also known to have some drawbacks. A key one is that it mixes these applications with the administration applications which compose the rest of the product menu. A related issue is that personal applications are some times tightly related with the personal dashboard of the user, where users themselves (when authorized) can place applications (in the form of portlets). The personal dashboard can also gain pages and applications placed by the administrators of user groups that the user belongs too. In these cases, why should the personal applications that all users have access too be in a completely different place?
The proposed solution is to take all user applications out of administration and place them into the User site in the personal Dashboard. This example can be found in in.liferay.com where users have their own applications.
So all these applications must appear in the dashboard as items in a menu
- Account settings
- Workflow tasks
- Sync devices
This story should look for the best way to display all these menu options taking into account that applications must also visually work within the layout.
