Users do not see at once when they have received a notification of type "request"

Steps to reproduce:
1. Add a user to the portal.
2. Add the "Invite Members" portlet on the welcome page.
3. Click the "Invite members to this site" and invite the user you created in step 2. (you will see it in the list)
4. Login as that user and go to "My Account->Notifications" (Next to this menu element you can see an orange badge with the number of new messages received)

Result: However, on the right side of the screen, the users see the "Notifiactions List" but doesn't immediately see that they have to click on "requests list" to see the received notification.
Expected behavior: It should be indicated how many unread/unhandled notifications are on the two tabs.
