Description
Context
Google has defined a guideline for localized and regional URLs that can be found here: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/189077. Currently, Liferay does not support some parts of this document and any customer who has developed (or planning to develop) a multilanguage public portal and relies heavily on being found via Google search will be heavilly impacted (SEO).
One of our customers, Eichler, is suffering this issue. More details here.
Goal
The goal of this user story is to improve the SEO of these kind of websites/portals providing the option of using "-" in the locale of the URLs instead of "_".
What's next
- We are not able to map any kind of locale beyond the ISO standard. E.g: en_DE, de_GB, etc. This is other issue that is preventing our customers from implementing Google guidelines.
