      Description

Our first approach to implement synonyms would be to leverage the  synonym token filter but it requires reindexing content as far as we saw. This is huge limitation.

Now we should investigate the synonym graph token filter. Its main purpose is to allow multi-word synonyms. However, there is this note in this documentation that sounds interesting:

If you want to apply synonyms during indexing please use the standard synonym token filter.

If one has to use the synonym token filter to apply synonyms at indexing time, then it is plausible to consider that synonym graph token filter only applies during query time. Also pointing in this direction is this blog post referenced in synonym graph token filter, which states that

This would mean you can run graph analyzers at query time (i.e., query time expansion) and get the correct results.

So let's experiment with this filter and see if it does solve our issue.
