Performing open-ended search within manually added Search widgets gives incorrect search count

Details

    • Regression Bug

    Description

      Steps to reproduce:

      1. Create a new Widget Page called "Search Page"
      2. Navigate to Search Page and add the Search Result and Search Bar widgets to the page
      3. Enter Configuration for the Search Bar and change the Scope to "Everything"
      4. Perform a search for "*" within the Search Bar widget

Result: The "# results for *" count within the Search Result widget is 40+ higher than what is actually returned. If there are search results returned, the pagination buttons appear but navigating to another page brings you to a page with no results and the buttons disappear.

See example where only one result was returned, but the count shows 47:

Note: This only happens when performing a search via the Search widgets that are manually added to a manually created widget page. This is not reproducible on the default search page or a page that was created with the Search Global Template even when search widgets are manually added to those pages.

      Reproduced on:
      Tomcat 9.0.17 + MySQL 5.7.25
      portal master Git SHA 0ea954d82bb59a10c9048c5752b191d791dd5e37v
