      Description

We want to add the control panel portlets (Users, Organizations, Communties etc) separately on different pages.
On the left side of these pages we want to add a navigation bar.
At the moment the window state of these portlets is MAXIMIZED (WindowState.MAXIMIZED). We need WindowState.NORMAL for our use.
So we have to overwrite the appropriate jsps, because the windows state is hardcoded.
Our suggestion is to make the window state configurable for these portlets (e.g. in the portlet preferences).

Could you please verify if this improvment could be implemented in core?

      Thank you.

Moved to product backlog: this feature may be added in the next major version. It'll be analyzed.
It makes sense that the portlet's window state could be configured and stored in the portlet's preferences
        Thanks for your feedback

        Hi Verena,

Why do you need to add these portlets to a regular page? What's the issue with the Control Panel that prevents you from using it?

        Hi Jorge,

One of the reasons was this ticket:

        http://issues.liferay.com/browse/BOSCHCONSULTING-80

We got no solution for from Liferay for this problem.
So we found a workaround to solve it (is described in this ticket, too).
Liferay told us that the problems which occur when we use the CP as page type "Control Panel" are not supported.
So we decided to add the portlets individually to a page.

Could you please give feedback if this feature (make window state configurable via portlet preferences) will be implemented?

        Thank you.

        Hi Kniesel,

I'm still unsure if this is an improvement that would be beneficial in general for Liferay's users. It seems that you prefer to not use the Control Panel and you are trying to look for alternatives, which is what is leading you to ask for this request.

I'd prefer to figure out what's the aspect of the Control Panel that makes it not appropriate for your needs and fix that instead.
