Viewing a deleted item's notification causes errors and exceptions

Here are the steps to reproduce:

1. Add a microblogs entry
2. Add a microblogs entry comment
3. Delete the microblogs entry comment
4. View the notification

Expected result:

The notification portlet should say that there are no notifications

Actual result:

The notification portlet will show an error and exceptions will be thrown
